solidarity shutdown
standing with protestors in Minneapolis
I'm delaying this week's essay in solidarity with our neighbors in Minneapolis. Activists there called for a nationwide strike on January 30. They've asked folks not to work, shop, or go to school today.
Much of what is happening at the national level is an escalation of the harms that leaders have brought to many u.s. residents. The widespread abuse is an escalation of tactics that people in power tested in apartheid states worldwide. Mass protests are one of the ways that we can demand real change—not just a return to the status quo. To start, we need to defund and dismantle the entire Department of Homeland Security.
If you have the ability to join this shutdown today, please do so. Take care.
